Rooted in Christ to Love, Grow and Serve – Colossians 2:7

Salem Women

All women who are members of Salem Lutheran Church are members of Salem Women and may determine how involved they would like to be.

Meetings are held twice a year, Fall and Spring, with a get-together in December to assemble cookie plates for shut-ins and church staff.

At the Fall general meeting, there is a speaker followed by a discussion and vote to determine where money earned at Smorgasbords and Bazaar will be allocated.  A quick meeting to update everyone is held in the Spring followed by a speaker.

Swedish Meatball Dinner

Salem Women are trying something new this year.  On Wednesday, August 4th they are hosting a Swedish Meatball Dinner with the same great meatballs they have previously served at past smorgasbords.  Come join us from 5 to 7.  They are serving meatballs, potatoes, peas or corn, rolls, bars and a beverage for $13.00 for adults, $6.00 for 4 to 10, and 3 and under are free.

Smorgasbords

Salem Women have held three smorgasbords each summer on the 3rd Wednesday of June, July and August.  This provides a wonderful time for fellowship as food is prepared on Tuesday and served on Wednesday.  Doris Schmidt’s coordination of the Smorgasbords is greatly appreciated.

Salem Bazaar

The Salem Bazaar is held on the second Saturday in September in conjunction with the “Fall Has It All” celebration in Longville.  The day begins with breakfast served from 7-10 am and continues with a barbequed rib luncheon served from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm.  A silent auction will take place from September 1-14 with winners announced at 3 pm on September 14.  Baked and canned goods and numerous items made during our “fun” shops will be for sale.  Tim Peterson is our chef for these meals and is appreciated for his help and expertise.

Quilting

Many women gather on Thursdays during the months of January, February and March to sew quilts.  These quilts are given to graduates, fire/disaster victims in the community and are distributed through Lutheran World Relief.  In 2019, the women made 60 quilts and put together 15 school kits and 20 kits for infant care.  Baby quilts are also made and given to babies at their baptism.

Ruth Circle

Ruth Circle continues to meet on the second Thursday of the month and invites all women to attend their Bible studies.

We extend an invitation to all Salem Women to become involved in the wonderful projects throughout the year.  Events and gatherings are always a blessing to women who participate and people who are blessed by their creations.  The generosity of women who give their time, talents and gifts are greatly appreciated.  Thank you for being God’s hands and feet to bring the love of Christ to the world.
