We began the year with our fall general meeting at which we determined where to donate the money earned over the past year by the hard working Women of Salem. As always, the focus of the group is to support local and international missions.
ELCA Living Waters Spring Gathering:
On April 23rd , 2016 the Women of Salem hosted the Women of the ELCA Living Waters Spring Gathering, with 76 women attending, including 24 from Salem. Katie Daudt was the presenter, speaking about her trip to Ethiopia through World Vision and the critical need for clean water in many areas of Africa. At the gathering, $1,188.50 was collected through offering with half going to World Vision and half to our church-wide women. Additionally, pennies collected over this past year and designated to Second Harvest Food was $735.84. The pennies collected this year will be donated to Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge. We had three smorgasbords again this year, which were tremendously successful. A huge thank you to Doris Schmidt for coordinating the dinners, and to all who helped to prepare and serve.
The Ruth Circle:
The Ruth Circle continues to meet and would like to remind the congregation that all women are welcome to attend these Bible studies.
Through January, February, and March, many women gather on Thursdays to sew quilts which are used to bless many including graduates, fire/disaster victims in the community, and are distributed through Lutheran World Relief. Additionally, baby quilts are made and given to babies at their Baptisms.
The women also prepared and sent 33 completed school kits for Lutheran World Relief. There is a huge need for these kits so they will be the focus for this year as well.
In 2017, the women will have the opportunity to attend the triennial convention in Minneapolis. Everyone who has attended this big convention has said that it is a fantastic and inspiring event, worshipping God with thousands of other women. Let’s get a group together and attend!
We would like to extend an invitation to all women of Salem to become involved in the wonderful projects throughout the year. The events and gatherings are always a blessing to the women who participate and people who are blessed by their creations. The generosity of the women with their time, talents, and gifts are greatly appreciated. Thank you for being God’s hands and feet to bring the love of Christ to the world.
